One Ingredient Caramel Sauce

Have you ever looked at a recipe and get super excited about it but then realize you’re missing one ingredient? Of course no store bought option is safe, so you have to spend twice as long researching and collecting more ingredients to make just one little part of the original recipe. By then you are tired, frustrated, and less likely to even attempt that found recipe that seems so promising a that beginning of this whole process.

Because this is a common occurrence in my kitchen I try my best to find ingredients that can be utilized in multiple recipes so I’m not wasting all my time to make something that I will only use a tablespoon or less and never use again.

With it being apple season I am in full baking mode and everything is apple and cinnamon but this year I wanted to add caramel to the mix.

This “caramel” sauce is one ingredient! Yes you heard that right ONE! It’s super easy but you need a few hours being home and with socially distancing still in play it makes it even easier to do.

I use Nature’s Charm Sweetened Condensed Coconut Milk for this recipe and it comes out perfect.

First fill a large pot with water and place a trivet on the bottom. This will ensure the water is surrounding the can on all sides.

Put the can in the water on the trivet. Make sure there is enough water that it is completely under water by an inch or two. Then cover with the pot with it’s lid.

Bring the water up to a rolling boil then turn down the heat to simmer.

Simmer the water for two to three hours. Check regularly to make sure the can is fully under water. Add water if necessary. If you want a thicker, darker caramel simmer for closer to three hours.

Take the can out carefully and submerge in cold water for ten to twenty minutes. Dry the can off and open. It will be a perfect caramel color and consistency.

That’s it! There is nothing else to do other than enjoy it right out of the can, drizzle it, or put it in an airtight container to enjoy up to a month later if it lasts that long.
